More Information about Russell Museum

Nestled in the heart of Northland, Russell Museum is more than just a repository of history; it's a vibrant, living testament to our region's rich past. Established in 1950, we've been a cherished cornerstone of our community, offering insights into the lives and times that shaped our unique identity. Step inside, and you're greeted by an intriguing blend of local history and Māori heritage. Our museum is not just a collection of artifacts; it's a journey through time, a narrative woven with tales of early settlers, indigenous cultures, and the intrepid voyages that first brought humanity to these shores. One of our most captivating exhibits is a scale model of Captain Cook's Endeavour, a tangible link to the mariners who navigated the waters around Northland centuries ago. But we don't just stop at the past; we bring history alive with interactive digital maps and engaging historical videos that transport you back in time. Our Māori history section is a testament to the resilience, wisdom, and creativity of our indigenous people. Here, you can delve into the stories of our ancestors who thrived long before European settlers arrived, their legends, traditions, and achievements shining as brightly today as they did in yesteryears. We're particularly proud of our exhibition on early Polynesian arrival, showcasing the remarkable skill and courage of those intrepid explorers who braved the vast Pacific Ocean to find a new home in Aotearoa. It's a humbling reminder of the indelible mark these pioneers left on our land and culture. Whether you're a lifelong local or a curious traveler, Russell Museum offers an immersive, educational experience that invites you to explore, discover, and connect with the spirit of Northland. So come, join us on this journey through time. There are stories waiting to be told, connections waiting to be made, and a rich tapestry of history just begging to be unraveled. Welcome to Russell Museum - where the past meets the present in a vibrant dance of discovery.

Great

“Great service”

Owner retired

“Bryant watch centre closed its doors 3 years ago. Geoff and Robyn have retired. We have not been at the Victoria Street address for over 10 years. Complain to this company if you have been inconvenienced by this unapproved listing.”

Bad

“Neville a is convicted cocaine smuggler (Australia) and false passport user (NZ to Aust). Total compassionless conman. ”

Jill Matthews Woodhaugh Rest Home

My close friend was there

“Absolutely appalling, no engagment with famly or updates on her health, 3 admissions to hospital due to lack of nursing expertise and diagnosis. No notification to family re these incidents. Wouild never recommend it, in fact have posted on Facebook to Dun edin citizens never to use this facility, this was backed up by audits reports and written in such a way that it would not be deemed slanderous or libelous in any way.”
